Sailing

 
Bonaire is host to the International Sailing Regatta each fall. Sailors in all classes race during the weeklong celebration. There are parties and dancing and a festive atmosphere prevails. Bonaire has a number of charter companies that offer dinner, full moon, snorkel, weekend and daily charters. Please refer to Boat-Rental & Charter and Sailing in the Bonaire Yellow Pages.

Snorkeling

 
If you can float, you too can enjoy the wondrous underwater world around Bonaire. Many of the dive sites have great snorkeling too. Snorkel equipment is available across the island including at dive shops and hotel beach rental facilities.

Windsurfing

 
The best spot for windsurfing is the sheltered, shallow Lac on the East Coast of Bonaire. There are two distinctive windsurfing seasons on Bonaire. Higher winds prevail from the middle of December through August. The light wind season is September until December 15th. The main area for wind surfing, Lac, is under the protection of the Bonaire Marine Park. To rent equipment or take windsurfing lessons please refer to Windsurfers in the Bonaire Yellow Pages.

Kayaking

 
Both sit on and sit in kayaks can be rented from the windsurfing establishments at Lac Bay and at a number of dive centers. Be sure to kayak through the mangroves. (guides are required for the mangroves)

Yachting & Cruising

 
There are a number of moorings that are available for a modest daily fee. These moorings are painted red. Contact the Harbour Village Marina for a mooring assignment via channel 17 before picking up a mooring. Cruisers are obligated to check with Customs and Immigration upon arrival.

Fishing

 
There are a number of charter boats that will take anglers out for sailfish, marlin, tuna, tarpon as well as wahoo and dorado.

Bird Watching

 
Bonaire has over 200 bird species on the island although none are endemic to Bonaire. The most famous are the flamingos. Notable woodland species include the Yellow-shouldered Parrot, the Caribbean Parakeet, the Tropical Mockingbird and the Banana quit. There are five species of doves and pigeons. Many species of waders and shorebirds can be found including Morphs, Egrets, Herons, Dowitchers, Sandpipers and Plover.

Cycling

 
Bike tours are conducted through the Kunuku (outback) and through the Washington/Slagbaai National Park. Mountain bikes made for off road exploring are available for rent. Please refer to Bicycles-Rentals in the Bonaire Yellow Pages.

Tennis

 
Most courts are lit and therefore allow for early evening play when the weather is more temperate. Enquire at your accommodation for details.
