Getting Married in Bonaire

Back to Calendar of Events in Bonaire    |

Getting married on Bonaire is now much easier than it has been in the past. Many resorts offer packages and honeymoon specials. You need to allow four to six weeks for the paperwork to be completed. The bride or groom needs to procure a temporary residency permit from immigration.

To apply for temporary residency you will need:

 Two passport photos.
Photocopy of signature I photo page of your passport.

For the official marriage petition you will both need:

 Original birth certificates.
Declaration of marital status by the civil registry. If divorced or widowed, divorce decree or documentation of proof is required.
Photocopy of signature I photo page of your passport.
If you choose to bring witnesses from home, they also need temporary residency. Your island wedding coordinator can also arrange for local witnesses.

After arrival on Bonaire, it takes four working days for all the forms to be processed. If you are arriving during a week in which there is an official holiday, this process could take longer. Check with the agency handling your paperwork regarding holiday schedules. It's best to allow a full week for your completed paperwork. Wedding can take place in many pre-approved locations as well as the civil court building and are performed before an officer of the judiciary. There are a number of churches that can be contacted for a religious ceremony after the civil one is completed.

You can call "I Do Bonaire"at 599-717-8778 or 717-4890 for more information.
